UT Physicians (UTP) is a management services organization, chartered as a 501(a) corporation under the Texas Medical Practices Act, specifically created to perform business functions on behalf of the medical practice of the physicians of The University of Texas Medical School at Houston.
The medical practice of the physicians of UT Medical School, also known as UT Physicians, is one of the largest physician groups in the Houston-Galveston area. With more than 700 physicians certified in 80 medical specialties and subspecialties, UT Physicians provides multi-specialty care for the entire family. UT Physicians helps patients needing urgent, highly specialized or complex care and also provides high-quality, wellness-oriented primary care for routine illnesses and maintenance of good health. UT Physicians doctors are internationally recognized for leading-edge medical research and treatment. UTP, as a practice management company, conducts a wide range of business activities on behalf of the medical school physician group practice including:
- Management of more than 30 clinic locations for UT Physicians
- Managed care contracting and related initiatives, including credentialing of physicians
- Business development and marketing activities
- Analysis and implementation of new business ventures to expand the scope of services offered by the physician practice
- Hiring, retention and training of personnel
- All general business functions necessary for the ongoing operation of a large and complex physician practice
UTP develops and maintains websites to further the business, marketing and educational objectives of both the UTP medical practice and corporation.
